Shop Accessories & Aids

Shops aren’t built with tools alone. We also need workbenches, vises, tool boxes, storage cabinets, and a host of others items that together create a place to work and keep us reasonably organized, clean, comfortable, and safe.

In Our Shop

Yost Rapid-Action 7” x 6” Wood Vise

$79.19 As of: 07/25/24

These are the vises mounted to one end of our workbench – you see them in almost every video we shoot. The rapid action makes them easy to open and close, and pop-up dogs secure workpieces that are larger than the capacity of the vises themselves.

Jorgensen 9” x 7” Wood Vise

$38.63 As of: 07/25/24

This is a simple but well-made wood vise from a reputable company. For those of you just getting into woodworking, this vise works well and won’t break the bank. It’s also a good choice if you need a second vise that you will only use occasionally.

Waxed Canvas Work Apron

$38.95 As of: 07/25/24

This isn’t the apron I wear in our videos – I have something much simpler so it won’t look as if I’m carrying around my tool shop. But this apron is comfortable, sturdily made, with lots of pockets and wide straps. So if you do want to wear your shop, the weight will be distributed over a large area of your shoulders.

Eleon Self-Centering Doweling Jig

From time to time manufacturers reinvent this ancient jig, and this is their latest and best entry. The Eleon guides you while drilling holes for five sizes of dowels. It expands to accommodate 6” (15 cm) wide stock, and has well thought-out markings to help with positioning.

Rust Eraser from Lodge

$8.99 As of: 10/02/24

We demonstrated a well-used "rust eraser" in “Seven Ways to Prevent Rust”. It's silicon carbide abrasive bonded in rubber, intended to remove rust from cookware. But it works beautifully on steel tools. Use it whenever a rust blossom appears to keep it from becoming a bigger problem. Absolutely indispensable.

Twidec Heavy Duty Foot Switch with piggyback plug

$29.99 As of: 10/05/24

If you plan to make and use the saber saw table I show in “Making a Halloween Lantern”, you're going to need one of these. It will safely turn the saber saw on and off without reaching under the table. This is also handy (and safe) to use with a router table for exactly the same reason.

First Aid Only Contractor’s First Aid Kit

$22.49 As of: 07/25/24

You need a first aid kit in your shop, that’s a given. This is the kit we have available in our shop – it’s remarkably well-organized and well-equipped to take care of most major and minor emergencies you are likely to encounter in a woodworking shop.

Eye Wash Station

$26.99 As of: 07/25/24

An eye injury is one of the medical emergencies that craftsmen are most likely to encounter. Protective eyewear is your first line of defense, but there are things that can sneak under the goggles. I strongly suggest you keep one of these next to your first aid kit.
